Dear Pelham Middle School Community,
It is with great excitement that I write to you as your Pelham Middle School principal. My passion for education and the students in Pelham has been shaped over my past thirteen years in the district, and I am proud to assume the mantle of leadership as we endeavor to both continue our rich traditions and adapt to the changing needs of middle-level learners.
Great schools are the product of great teachers. Here at Pelham Middle School we have a wonderful team of teachers, administrators, and staff who collaborate each day to serve the students who are entrusted to us. We will continue to build strong relationships with students, parents, and members of the community, as well as provide academic experiences that are rigorous, relevant, and engaging. Understanding the unique and challenging needs of middle-level learners, we will strive to develop the whole child, including students’ academic, social, emotional, and physical development. In our engaging and supportive environment, students will have the opportunity to master academic content and skills while also exploring areas of curiosity, learning to solve problems, and developing relationships and a positive sense of self.
A key component in our efforts to develop and maintain a cooperative community of learners is Pelham P.R.I.D.E. This acronym - which stands for “Prepared, Respectful, Involved, Determined, and Excellent” - represents the positive behaviors that make our school such a wonderful place to learn and help students grow into productive and happy young adults.
During the coming school year, we will be focusing our efforts in three key areas: Learning by Doing, Cultural Competence, and Character Development. We understand that, in order to be prepared for future success, students will need to apply knowledge and skills in authentic situations, appreciate and welcome the contributions of individuals from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, and demonstrate caring, integrity, and respect in their interpersonal relationships and decisions. I look forward to sharing more information about these initiatives with you as the year progresses.
Pelham Middle School is an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP encourages creative, critical, and reflective thinking, intellectual challenge, international-mindedness, and making connections between learning and the real world. The framework and philosophy of the MYP will continue to be the vehicle and means through which we achieve our school’s goals.
It is with tremendous P.R.I.D.E. that I look forward to the opening of the 2018-19 school year and to working with you and your children to carry on in the tradition of excellence here at Pelham Middle School. Together, we will continue moving forward as we empower our next generation of leaders to face the challenges of the future.
